Sep. 15th, 2008 08:40 pmBut then again, maybe not. XDD
OHGEEZUS. I don't even know where to start. The characters? OK.
Ohno Satoshi as Naruse Ryou:
The man is brilliant. I will miss just about everything: his softspoken comments, his loud shoes that seemed to echo even on carpet, the slow-mo every time he turned, his smirks (I laughed each time). What killed me the most were his pained expressions and how he gulped a lot when he was nervous. Oh yes, trust me, I noticed every gulp.
HIS CRYING. Dear god. I don't know what it is, but it really gets to me. (Nino does this to me too; his face turns red and it's way realistic.) Ohno quivers. He trembles. His acting is just. Incredible. I love him for taking this role, I really do.
And man, if Ohno never accepted this role there wouldn't be truth, guys. ;o;
Ikuta Toma as Serizawa Naoto:
At first, he was just the heated cop who just ran around and screamed a lot. Well, there was a lot of that. BUT, his ability to react every time the news of someone else's death came along was impressive. There was tree-touching, crying in the rain, collapsing and doubling over in an alley, file-cabinet-touching, wall-leaning, etc. Then his other expressions of shock/revelation, his IHATEYOUDAD faces, and his WTFNARUSE'SEVERYWHERE faces. Who doesn't think all that was epic? XD
I don't know why some people didn't think this role suited him as well ('cause apparently it's just not as funny as Nakatsu/Takemoto) but to me, Naoto was plenty entertaining and lol-tastic. Ikuta Toma, you are really kind of awesome.
(Although it would have been more awesome to see his DUDEWTF face when he saw Naruse's Naoto shrine but alas.)
Kobayashi Ryoko as Sakita Shiori:
HUGE HUGE EYES. But omg, my love for her grew so much as the series went on. She's like this wibbly puppy that just won't go away but you can't say no 'cause she's too adorable.
Whatever-his-name-is as Yamano Makoto:
If I ever see this actor again, I won't be able to see him as anything but Yamano. He played his part so well. Yamano's such a.. hate-able character. And I never knew his full name was Yamano Makoto until I wiki'ed just now. THAT SOUNDS A LITTLE FISHY.
THE OST. Amazing. Just amazing. I'm totally thinking of transcribing a couple of songs just because they deserve to be transcribed into piano music. *___*It'll probably take me years though.
How about that Episode 11?:
Public transportation, let's use it! Ah, nope nevermind, because RUNNING'S SO MUCH MORE DRAMATIC. T^T Nuuu. Even a bicycle would have been sufficient enough!
I can watch the final Naruse/Serizawa scene so many times and still stay glued to the screen. The intensity and the tears. Agh, my heart. And when Naruse's like, "KILL ME NOW DEMYU." and Naoto shook his head and said he couldn't, I just broke.
When the scene switched to them both propped against the wall, I laughed, I admit it. But I mean, who else would do something as adorable as that? A normal person would leave Serizawa laying on the ground but no, Naruse sits him up beside him. [cue more tears] I don't know, I just kind of wanted to sit in a corner and just cry. I'd really hate to be in Shiori's position just then.
I loved how this whole mess began and ended with an accident. There's just so much depth in symbolism that my little brain can't handle. Like the butterflies, for example. In the opening, right at the beginning, there's the butterfly that's heading toward the spider's web. Then the running Serizawa slams into the wall of tarot cards and happens to slam right into the Seven of Coins card (the one with the spider web). AH GEEZ. And you'd think the song was obvious enough. ;;
And I'm getting the real Maou vibes from Yamano. I mean, his name's gotta be Yamano Makoto for a reason, right? AND. He stabs Naruse then uses that same knife to stab Kasai. WTFMAN. WHO DOES THAT? ASFKAFJGGH.
What's up with that ending? I'm hearing things like extra scenes in the DVD box? ;~; We have to wait that long?

Date: 2008-09-16 02:43 am (UTC)-- ROFL. THAT WOULD BE SO DAMN WORTH IT. XDDDDDD
And waaaaaaah I know!! God this episode is just so dramatic! Well the whole serie is dramatic, but of course they HAD to make the last one a big giant tear-jerker for weak girls like me. T^T
Definitely, the guy playing Yamano Makoto played his role perfectly. I hated him so much. His tics and creepy grins were just sickening... I wanted to punch him in the face lol!
Haha, like you I kinda laughed a bit at the first frame we get of the two guys plopped down side by side with Tomoo leaning his head on his arch-enemy. It was an odd image - not in a negative way, but I mean, when I saw them I automatically thought "Whoa, so he dragged him there and just sat by the dead body of his enemy" lol. But it was cute. I mean, both of them would be peaceful then. It was very emotional.
And you're right about how it starts out with an accident and ends with one as well. There's so much symbolism throughout the serie! It's the kind of show you don't mind watching over and over again because you get to pick up little subtleties like that all the time.
Maou was one hell of a ride. Pun intended. XD

Date: 2008-09-16 03:20 am (UTC)I just want to embrace this fragile-like series and pimp it to everyone I know. It's that good. D:
AHH his creepy grins. The way his mouth twitches and agh. He totally should have died a long time ago. >:[
The image of the two sitting there was so adorable. They were like teddy bears. ;o;
Mmhmm. :) Well, I'm sure I wouldn't watch it as often as I do YTM just because your heart can only take so much Maou at once. LOL. But I'm definitely sure it's one of those dramas that you learn something new each time you watch. It's just incredible.
One hell of an emotional roller coaster. One minute you're bawling and the next you're in shock. What drama does that?! Oh, Maou. &hearts

Date: 2008-09-16 10:04 am (UTC)I seriously fell in love with this drama. And the thing was, I wasn't expecting to, because I was only watching it for Ohno. I didn't like the genre, I didn't like Toma, at first I didn't even like Shiori (you're right, her eyes are way too big; but her dresses are pretty ♥). And then... it just crept into my heart, and now I just now I will have the hardest time letting it go. =(((((

Date: 2008-09-16 03:03 pm (UTC)Oh yes, trust me, I noticed every gulp.
I thought I was the only one! Ohno's facial expressions (including his crying) are so damn believable that I don't even know why he wasn't cast in dramas before this one.
As for Toma's acting, I don't think I'll look at Nakatsu/Takemoto the same way again. Toma has proved he can do a wide range of roles and not necessarily take all the goofy ones.
I'm somewhat biased XDYamano was really really easy to hate. I still hate him for stabbing Ryou.
And KasaiI also laughed when one moment Naruse was shouting, "Don't die!!" to Naoto and then the other he already had Naoto on his side. LOL. The last bit was adorable too, when he was lying on Naoto's shoulder. Makes me feel Naruse had seen himself in Naoto that much. Apparently this was the perfect ending to the series after all. It's either both of them will live or both of them will die. T^T
And sorry for the long comment. I like to ramble too much sometimes. ;___;

Date: 2008-09-16 04:02 pm (UTC)It kills me that the Frog Lady's grown on me T_T It's so hard to be biased against the female protagonist when she's so nice. My irrational dislike of girls who act opposite pretty boys, where have you gone? *miserable*

Date: 2008-09-16 05:20 pm (UTC)I started watching this with high expectations. Maybe it was because of all of the promotions and because it was Ohno. But man, it did more than meet my expectations. Maou surpassed it to the point that I'm left speechless. &hearts (Shiori always dresses so nicely! It's always flow-y and spring-ish. XD) But yeah, everyone just did an incredible job, especially the main leads. Oh geez, letting go of it will be hard. DD: I'm with you there.

Date: 2008-09-16 05:39 pm (UTC)My respect for Toma as an actor has grown lengths thanks to this drama. Ah~, he's so awesome. And
his neckline and collarbonesHE looked very nice in that jacket and wifebeater every episode. &heartsAgh, Yamano. He sickened me. As Naruse got more human-like, Yamano just got more devilish. The man just really needed to die ASAP.
XDD Right? It was just pretty comical. Ah, but so so cute. And you're right that this was the perfect ending. If they both lived any longer, both of their suffering would have just driven them to madness. ;; It's just. *sigh* I love this drama so much.
Ohnonono, I adore long comments. :DD I mean, look at the size of my entry! LOL.

Date: 2008-09-16 05:55 pm (UTC)Yeah. It was inevitable and you know they're both going to die but the way it leads up to it. ASGKHL WHYY. I'm really glad it ended in that peaceful manner. &hearts
Especially since she'll be seeing even more at the very end. Right when she was getting over it too! It'd really suck to be her. ;__;

Date: 2008-09-16 06:05 pm (UTC)I know right? I was all prepared to dislike her because she plays the love interest. But when she started to become giddy and Naruse-fan-like, I kept thinking, "Aww, how cute. &hearts" and it was doomed from then on.

Date: 2008-09-19 04:58 am (UTC)that final showdown/revelation/KILLMENOYOUKILLME scene just broke my heart. when ohno cried i died a little inside (and YES when naruse leaned on serizawa's shoulder i chuckled while risking choking on my own tears) (but then when i thought about the leaning, it just made me more sad)... (and WTF YOU'RE BLEEDING, GET A TAXI) (and OMG obviously the schoolwhereitallstarted is at some weird isolated place SO WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU RUN SHIORI?!) (duuude makoto, hellooo? GERMS?) (WHY am i speaking in parentheses?!) anyway... i knew naruse would choose serizawa over shiori in the end hahaha nvmijustwantOHNOtomyself *COUGH* i really like the ending (except the WTF ALTERNATE ENDING? *ends*...O_O oh.), in fact i think i like it better than the entire show; my friends were more into maou than i was because i just couldn't see any chemistry between a lot of the characters, maybe it's just me, but that final scene just got me so emotional, the fact that they realized something but it's too late... i like shows that make me cry (like karei naru ichizoku) haha

Date: 2008-09-19 11:58 am (UTC)Dude yeah, apparently it takes a long time to get there since Naoto drove Shiori there the first time! Shiori thinks she'll make it there on time by running?! T^T Where are your senses girl!
LOL. Of course Naruse would choose Serizawa over Shiori. I mean, he
hashad a shrine for him and everything. XD And Naoto does the running thing better than she does. I wonder what happened to Kumada's son though. I think if he made an appearance again, Naruse's love may waver. HAHA.The tension at the end was just killer, I'd say. XD Ah, I don't know. I can't get over it.
