Why Arashi has gained attention: An Investigation

This is neat, guys! My Statistics professor has this list of useful links for data and graphs. One of them is the Google Insights for Search site that generates frequency timeplots based on interest level of a search term. And that leads to...

I did a search on "arashi" based on worldwide searches and it shows the interest level growth from 2004-present. It doesn't exactly tell us how Arashi got so darn popular, but it gives you an idea, right? :D

INVESTIGATION TIME | What may/may not have caused a peak in:

May 2007: We can make it! released on May 2nd charted. Partially due to Matsujun's efforts in Bambino! around this time. They also just had their ARASHI AROUND ASIA+ in DOME concerts from 4/21-4/30.

(Pre-May 2007: The steady rise in early 2007 could have been a result of Hana Yori Dango Season 2 as well as Letters from Iwo Jima. Hmm, yes. "You say Domyouji's in a boy band? This excellent soldier isn't an actor, but an idol? WHAT?!")

August 2008: Ohno's Maou. This lead to Arashi's truth that went to become the number one single on 2008's Oricon Chart. MAOU. HAVE I MENTIONED MAOU. This is also the time when Sho went to the Beijing Olympics as a main caster.

(Pre Aug 2008: Early 2008 also had Ohno's "FREESTYLE" art exhibition and Jun's Hana Yori Dango FINAL.)

April 2009: Consecutive dramas. Right after Nino's DOOR TO DOOR, Jun's Smile and Sho's Quiz Show aired simultaneously.

(Pre-April 2009: Sho's Yatterman premiered 3/7. Its New York premiere also gained much attention. The single of the theme, Believe, lead the Oricon yearly chart of 2009.)

August 2009: Arashi's 10th Anniversary, thus many activities. ARASHI Anniversary Tour 5×10.

Any thoughts? Why do you think they've gotten so popular? Anything I left out? (There's a lot I left out!) DOES THIS ALL JUST MAKE YOU MORE CONFUSED. D:

I think the same as well, that their personalities are really what makes them popular. No doubt about it. I really should have reworded this, but I was mainly curious as to what might have caused a greater amount of attention on them. Of course, they're popular in Japan; many of their activities and TV shows are restricted to just Japan. And since I did a 'worldwide' interest level graph instead of just one in Japan. I think that movies and dramas are a big part of what brings attention to them from the world. :o

And sorry about just stating plain facts, I have people on my flist who aren't familiar with them.

I hope my comment didn't sounded bitchy, that's not what I intended. I actually like what you did. And I think it all started from Hanadan. If Jun wouldn't have starred in that drama, maybe Arashi would still be a little band known only in Japan....

Oh no, it's fine! I just felt like I needed to explain myself 'cause I really didn't clarify it at all in the post.

And yes! I also think Hanadan was a huge turning point. It really got many people to get to know them, and continued to. And of course Arashi themselves are really thankful for HYD as well. ;D
