A book I'm thankful for

I'm going with the book I drooled on lovingly:



I'm not sure whose idea it was to give baby Betty this book but it was the best idea ever. Firstly, it's interactive. You can pat the bunny, smell the flowers, and play hide-and-seek with Judy and Paul. So what if my copy had a defective scratch-and-sniff, and the piece of material for hide-and-seek was hanging by a thread.. I could still pat the fuzzy bunny. :D Secondly, the book demands you to. To quote: "Judy can pat the bunny. Now YOU pat the bunny." How could I not? But mainly, it brought me to the joy of reading. Well, eventually, because I did have an era where I'd only read pop-up books. But you know, reading is reading. Haha. I was one of those kids that was abandoned at the book area in stores. I'm sure a couple of very nice ladies asked me more than once if I knew where my parents were. My family would just drop me off there while they shopped, and then picked me up when they were done. This happened at Target, T.J.Maxx, the local grocery store, you name it.

And then stores started setting up those video game stations.. LOL.

Point is, I am definitely getting a copy of Pat the Bunny for my future children. I'm not sure where mine went but it wasn't in shape for sharing anyway. And I will abandon them in book sections of stores (with periodic surveillance). I turned out okay so I'm sure they will too. ;D


I recommend doing this! Sure, the odds are unbelievably slim. (3000+ entries already!) But somebody's gotta win, right?

Oh sounds like a book I must give to someone....

BTW, my mom used to abandon me at book stores while she shopped too. Sometimes for hours XD She knew I wouldn't leave anyway. (But no one ever asked me where my mom was... I was always just left to do as I pleased :D)

It's cute. And also the oldest book I could remember. XD Although I was reeeally good at coloring in my Disney books. I would color in the eyes red since that was the only part I could color in, so Snow White and the Seven Dwarves ended up looking just as evil as the witch LOL I should take a picture of them and share some day, I still have them.

Wow, you too! Our parents just were not worried about us, huh. XD Those were the days!

I can be left alone for hours in bookstores too. I can still today actually.

My fondest memories of reading have to be my dad reading fairytales to me when I was young. :)

Yeah, I was just at one today! XD I don't think I could be the type to study at a bookstore. I'd get too distracted.

Don't lie; we didn't abandon you! You WANTED to stay there! If not, then we threw like 5 books in the cart with you so you can knock yourself out! And then there were times when you finished those and wanted to exchange them! XD

I'm still alive! Though I haven't been around LJ much (it's mostly twitter and tumblr as of late), I happened to be perusing my friends' page today and I noticed your post, so I had to comment on it!

Honestly, I don't remember a time where I wasn't dropped off in some corner of a store! ...but, uhm, that sounds a bit off. lol |D Basically, it was easier on my mom and more fun for me! A win-win situation. :)

As for Pat the Bunny, it certainly is a classic! ^^ It was one of the first 'interactive' books I can remember playing with as a kid - though the scratch-and-sniff part never really worked for me either :P Well, lack of scents aside, it's definitely a book worth passing on to future generations or someone who's expecting.

Actually, this post got me thinking about other books I had throughout my childhood. Dr. Seuss, Little Bear, Frog and Toad, Nursery Rhymes, and a slew of other classic readers... but the one that always stands out as my most favorite is a book my grandmother owned and used to read to me when I would visit her. It's called, The Country Bunny and the Little Gold Shoes... just thinking about it gets me a little teary-eyed and sentimental.

The story is told exactly as if had been passed down from one family member to the next, and although it has an Easter theme, I really think it's the type of book you can read all year round. :3 It's heart-warming, teaches lessons, and is even has some 'girl power' thrown in (if you choose to look at it that way). Oh! and the illustrations are just as lovely and memorable as the story. I love it so much, I even asked my grandma if I could have it, so now it's nestled safely in with the rest of my keepsakes. ♥

I also haven't been around LJ around as often. It's hard to believe but I'm also struggling on keeping up with Arashi news even. D: But I'm sure I'll find a free weekend and just marathon myself to happiness or something. :Db

I'm surprised to learn so many of us have been abandoned somewhere or another in stores by our families. XD Gotta keep that tradition going!

I checked out The Country Bunny and the Little Gold Shoes and oh my, that story is so precious. The illustrations are just as adorable. I am so glad you shared that with me. I can see why you keep it so close to your heart. I feel like I will have to find myself a copy someday. :3

Aww~ well, hearing how much you like my drive-by comments makes me feel a little better about the lack of communication and my MIA status on LJ for the past... psh, I lost track a while ago. |D;;

When it comes to keeping up-to-speed with Arashi, I've basically come to the conclusion that it's impossible to stay on top of it all. D: The boys have been doing so much these past couple of years with their TV shows, appearances, promos, dramas, concerts, magazine shoots (OH GOD, THE SCANS. /dead), and solo work...it's seriously mind-boggling. @.@

So rather than stress myself, I've just been watching and downloading things at my own pace. I find that I end up enjoying things more that way anyhow. 8D

Haha! If I should ever have kids, I will most definitely continue the tradition! I think it makes life easier on the moms and is obviously a fun/educational experience for the kids! XD

Precious is certainly the right word to describe that book. It brings back so many memories just speaking about it. It's something that will always be treasured, that's for sure. You're more than welcome, and if you do happen to find a copy, you won't be disappointed - I promise! :3

Oh good! I'm in the process of making my cards now, I just have to get my lazy but in gear and finish them! Hopefully I can get them sent them out before the mail gets too backed up - I really want them to make it in time for Christmas! X3

It does seem like the exchange was yesterday, no? I can remember all of it too clearly! I seriously miss 5x5. T^T I wish everyone still had the time to keep it active. /sighhh Well, that's life I suppose~ I'm happy just being able to keep in touch with so many of the former members!
